What the message means
Capture One does not charge your card itself. Its help centre says: “All purchases made in our official web store are processed by our payment provider FastSpring.” When you pay, FastSpring sends the charge to your card's issuing bank, and the bank approves or refuses it. A refusal comes back to you as this message:
Your credit card was declined. Please try another card, or choose a different form of payment.
It is one of four checkout errors Capture One lists for a failed transaction. The other three are a fraud-related refusal (“We regret that your order could not be accepted…”, explained in our guide to that message), an invalid security code (CVC), and “An unexpected error occurred, and we are not currently able to accept payment”, which we cover in a separate guide.
Capture One's article names the reasons a bank declines a charge:
- insufficient funds, an expired card, or a card activity limit that has been reached;
- wrong card details, such as a mistyped card number or billing address;
- an amount above the limit your bank sets for internet purchases;
- a billing address that does not match the location of your IP address;
- a restriction on the account, for example a card set up not to be used outside the country where it was issued;
- suspected fraud, or a hold placed because the purchase does not fit your usual spending pattern.
The same article says FastSpring “doesn't have any control over the declines”, so writing to Capture One or FastSpring will not get the charge approved. Any amount you see on your account is only a pre-authorization that “will automatically drop off your card within 5-10 business days”; your card issuer controls the exact timing. FastSpring's own help adds that its charges appear on statements as “FSPRG”, which helps when you talk to your bank.
Free fixes to try first
These steps come from Capture One's payment articles. Try them in this order.
- Re-enter the card number, CVC and billing address. Capture One suggests submitting the order again if you think you typed the card details wrong. Enter the billing address exactly as your bank holds it, because a wrong address is on its list of decline reasons.
- Ask your bank to allow the payment. Call the customer service number on the back of the card. Ask whether the card blocks online purchases above a limit or payments outside your country, and whether a fraud hold stopped the attempt. Tell them it was a FastSpring charge for Capture One, confirm it was you, and ask them to let a new attempt through.
- Try another card. Capture One lists the cards FastSpring accepts: Visa, Mastercard, American Express (excluding orders in INR), Discover, JCB and UnionPay. A card from a different bank comes with its own limits and fraud rules.
- Pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay. Capture One's payment methods table lists both for all currencies and all countries. Apple Pay may not appear if your operating system and browser combination does not support it, so try another browser or device if it is missing.
- Pay with PayPal. PayPal is listed for 16 currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CAD, NZD, CHF, SEK, CZK, DKK, PLN, SGD, JPY, HKD, BRL and MXN) in all countries except Turkey. If PayPal fails too, Capture One suggests a fresh browser, a different funding source inside PayPal, or contacting PayPal.
- Check the other one-time payment methods. For a perpetual license, Capture One's table also lists Amazon (USD orders) and AliPay (CNY and USD, in China and the US). The checkout shows only the methods that apply to your country, currency and product.
- Get the exact reason from your bank. If the order still does not go through, Capture One's advice is to contact your bank “for clarification as to the exact reason for the failed transaction”. Only the issuer knows it.
Perpetual license or subscription: why it matters at checkout
Capture One sells Capture One Pro both as a subscription and as a perpetual license, which its pricing page describes as a “One-time purchase”. The choice changes which payment methods you see. Capture One explains that automatic-renewal subscriptions need a real-time payment method so FastSpring can rebill without your involvement, so methods that require manual interaction, such as AliPay, are not offered for subscriptions. The one-time perpetual license, Capture One says, opens up more payment options.
Capture One's note for buyers in India, about local banks blocking transactions under Reserve Bank of India rules, likewise concerns subscription purchases.
A pre-owned key from a marketplace is not a way out. Capture One's license agreement (effective 10 December 2025) says the rights it grants “are personal and non-transferable”, subject to local law, and a key that has been activated is tied to the Capture One account it was activated on. A single-user perpetual license may be installed on up to three computers, used on one at a time by the same person. Capture One does allow other sellers: its help centre says Capture One can be bought online or from its resellers, and that a reseller or external dealer provides a license key.
Buy it with crypto through Unboxkey
If no card or wallet gets through Capture One's checkout, we can buy the license for you. You pay us in crypto, we buy a new, never-activated Capture One Pro perpetual license key from Capture One's store or a reseller, and we email you the 16-character key. You activate it on your own Capture One account. We do not sell Capture One subscriptions, because they renew automatically on the payer's card. The full process is on how it works, and the coins and networks we accept are on how to pay.
Capture One Pro
Perpetual license, one-time payment. Subscriptions are not offered.
$366.45total, fee included
- A new 16-character license key by email, activated on your own Capture One account
- Typically within 2 hours of payment confirmation (09:00–21:00 UTC), at most 24 hours
If we can't buy your license, we refund the full amount you paid, in the same coin, with no deductions.
Once the key is activated on your account, Capture One's license terms apply to it. Questions about orders and refunds are answered in our FAQ.
FAQ
Capture One declined my card. Was I charged?
Capture One says any charge you see after a failed payment is only a pre-authorization of the funds, which drops off your card automatically within 5-10 business days. Your card issuer decides the exact timing. FastSpring charges show on statements as FSPRG.
Can Capture One or FastSpring approve my declined card?
No. Capture One's help article says FastSpring, its payment provider, has no control over bank declines. Only your card issuer can tell you the exact reason and lift a block, so call the customer service number on the back of your card.
Which cards does the Capture One web store accept?
Capture One lists the cards FastSpring accepts as Visa, Mastercard, American Express (excluding INR), Discover, JCB and UnionPay. Apple Pay and Google Pay are listed for all currencies and countries, and PayPal for 16 currencies in all countries except Turkey.
Can I pay for Capture One with PayPal in Turkey?
Not in the Capture One web store. Its payment methods table lists PayPal for all countries using the supported currencies, with the exception of Turkey. Cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay are listed for all countries.
Can I buy a used Capture One license instead?
Capture One's license agreement says the rights it grants are personal and non-transferable, subject to local law. An activated key is tied to the Capture One account it was activated on, so a pre-owned key is a poor bet. A new key from Capture One's store or a reseller is the clean route.
