The three tiers at a glance

Every figure below comes from Native Instruments' own Komplete 26 compare page and the system requirements on each bundle's page, as of October 2026. NI also sells an entry-level bundle, Komplete Select, in Beats, Band and Electronic editions; it is not part of this comparison.

The jump in size matters as much as the jump in content. Ultimate is about three times the download of Standard, and a full Collector's Edition install needs 1.6 TB of free space. You do not have to install everything: Native Access lists every product in the bundle and lets you pick which ones to download.

From Standard to Ultimate

Ultimate is the bigger step in range. It adds 21 cinematic and sound-design instruments (Pharlight, Straylight, Mysteria, Thrill and Rise & Hit among them) and 11 classical instruments where Standard has none, including the six Symphony Essentials libraries, Choir: Omnia Essentials, Emotive Strings and Stradivari Violin. Guitars go from 4 to 12 with the Session Guitarist Deluxe models, and the pianos gain Alicia's Keys, Claire and The Giant. For mixing it adds bx_clipper, bx_XL V3 and the VC 76, VC 2A and VC 160 compressors, plus the Flesh, Razor and Skanner XT synths.

From Ultimate to Collector's Edition

Collector's Edition changes less, but what it changes is specialist. It replaces Ultimate's Symphony Essentials, Choir: Omnia Essentials and Valves with the full Symphony Series, Choir: Omnia and Valves Pro, and adds Action Strings 2, Action Woodwinds, Action Strikes and solo strings such as Guarneri Violin and Stradivari Cello. Seven more cinematic instruments arrive (including Arkhis, Circular and Kithara), the mixing set gains bx_console AMEK 200 and bx_masterdesk PRO, and the expansion count rises from 56 to 101. Pianos, guitars, drums, synths and creative effects are the same as in Ultimate.

Which tier fits your work

  • Standard: beats, songs, pop and electronic production. You get every flagship, all 28 Play Series instruments, 20 Leap Expansions and the iZotope Elements trio (Ozone 12, Neutron 5 and Nectar 4 Elements), which all three tiers share. NI calls it its “best-value music production bundle”.
  • Ultimate: media music, sound design and guitar-heavy tracks. NI aims it at “serious musicians and advanced producers” and points to its “specialist, high-end tools for cinematic composition and sound design”. If you write for film, games or trailers on a budget, the Symphony Essentials libraries cover orchestral sketches.
  • Collector's Edition: full orchestral work and the biggest library. Choose it if you need the full Symphony Series and the Action series for finished orchestral scores, or you want 150+ expansions, and you have the disk space for 1.6 TB.
  • Not sure yet: start with Standard. NI says you can “move up to Ultimate or Collector’s Edition whenever you’re ready – you’ll only pay the difference between versions.”

Before you buy: serials, upgrades and system needs

Already own NI products? The compare page lists lower update prices for owners of earlier Komplete versions and upgrade prices for owners of Komplete Select or single products such as Kontakt or Massive X. NI's product pages say “If you already own Native Instruments products, you might qualify for a better price, log in to see.” Check that first, because an update or upgrade from NI usually costs less than a new full version.

How licenses work. When you buy from NI's webshop, NI says the serial number “is automatically registered to your Native Instruments account.” From a dealer, the serial “is typically provided separately by the retailer, usually via email”, and you add it in Native Access with Add Serial. To give or sell a license later, NI requires its License Transfer feature. A serial that is already registered to someone else will not register to you, and NI tells second-hand buyers to ask the seller for a license transfer. So buy a new, unregistered serial, from NI or from a dealer.

System requirements, all three tiers macOS 14, 15 or 26, or Windows 10 or 11; an Intel Core i5 or equivalent CPU, or Apple Silicon; 4 GB RAM (6 GB recommended); at least 60 GB free disk space. Massive X needs an AVX-compatible CPU or Apple Silicon, and an internet connection is required to download, install and activate.

If NI's checkout refuses your card, see Native Instruments payment method error at checkout for the free fixes.

Buy it with crypto through Unboxkey

If you cannot pay NI by card, we can buy the bundle for you. You pay in crypto, USDT first (other coins are on How to pay), and we buy a new serial number from a Native Instruments dealer. You get it by email and add it in Native Access with your own NI account, so the license is registered to you from the start. Alternatively we can deliver a License Transfer ID that you import into your account. We sell full versions only: NFR, EDU and hardware-bundled licenses are not offered, and for an update or upgrade price, buy from NI directly. How it works shows each step.

FAQ

Does Collector's Edition include everything Native Instruments makes?

No. Native Instruments describes it as “Almost everything from NI in one bundle.” It is the largest Komplete 26 tier, with 340+ instruments and effects and 150+ expansions on NI's compare page.

Can I start with Standard and upgrade later?

Yes. Native Instruments says that after buying Komplete 26 Standard “you can move up to Ultimate or Collector’s Edition whenever you’re ready – you’ll only pay the difference between versions.”

How much disk space does each Komplete 26 tier need?

Each tier needs at least 60 GB of free disk space. Installing every product and library takes 320 GB for Standard, 960 GB for Ultimate and 1.6 TB for Collector's Edition. In Native Access you choose which products to install, so you can install only part of a bundle.

Do all three tiers include the full Kontakt 8?

Yes. NI's compare page lists the same four flagships in Standard, Ultimate and Collector's Edition: Kontakt 8, Absynth 6, Massive X and Guitar Rig 7 Pro.

Why is it called Komplete 26 and not Komplete 16?

Native Instruments changed the naming to the release year. It says Komplete 26 is still the next version after Komplete 15, with no changes to upgrades or compatibility.
