The Vegas Pro lineup under Boris FX

On 30 March 2026 Boris FX announced that it had acquired Vegas Pro, Sound Forge and Acid Pro from MAGIX, and released Vegas Pro 2026 in three editions: Vegas Pro, Vegas Pro Plus and Vegas Pro Ultimate. Many older comparisons describe the editions and bundles MAGIX sold before the takeover, so check the date before you trust a feature list.

Licensing differs by edition. Boris FX says Vegas Pro and Vegas Pro Plus are available with subscription or perpetual licensing, and Vegas Pro Ultimate as a subscription plan. A perpetual license is the one-time purchase: it includes one year of upgrades and support, and after that newer versions need a paid upgrade. Whichever edition you choose, a free Boris FX account is required to use the Boris FX versions of Vegas Pro.

What the four Plus tools do

The plans page describes the Plus extras this way:

  • Mocha Vegas: planar tracking. Track surfaces and objects, create masks and roto shapes, stabilize footage and attach effects, graphics and titles to moving objects.
  • Particle Illusion: a real-time GPU 2D/3D particle engine with thousands of presets for effects such as fire, smoke and sparks, aimed at titles and transitions.
  • Sound Forge: a separate audio editor for waveform editing, restoration and mastering, for detailed work beyond the Vegas Pro timeline.
  • CrumplePop VST plug-ins: AI clean-up for dialogue and production audio: background noise, echo and reverb, wind noise and speech clarity.

Boris FX's help centre says these extras are installed from the Boris FX Hub as extra content when you install Vegas Pro Plus.

One point is easy to miss. The plans page lists AI tools for every edition, but Boris FX's launch announcement marks offline speech-to-text, offline text-to-speech and the Storyblocks library as “Available exclusively with Vegas Pro subscriptions”. A perpetual license, Pro or Plus, does not include those three.

Which edition fits you

Vegas Pro is enough if your work stays on the timeline: cutting, multicam edits of interviews and events, color grading, Continuum titles, compositing and mixing with the built-in audio tools. It is also the better buy if you already own a tracker, a particle tool or an audio editor, since Plus would duplicate them.

Vegas Pro Plus fits you if you regularly do at least one of these: attach titles or effects to a moving object, mask or roto something that moves, stabilize footage with planar tracking, add particle effects to titles and transitions, clean up dialogue recorded in noisy rooms or outdoors, or restore and master audio in a dedicated editor. Plus is also sold as a perpetual license, so the extra tools stay yours after the first year of updates.

Vegas Pro Ultimate adds the Continuum VFX plug-ins, the Mocha Pro plug-in, Optics and CrumplePop SoundApp, but only as a subscription. We do not sell it. If you need those tools, buy the subscription from Boris FX.

Free checks before you buy

These checks cost nothing and come from Boris FX's own pages.

  1. Run the free 15-day trial. The plans page offers a 15-day trial with full access to all features and no credit card needed. Edit a real project in it and note where you needed tracking, particles or dialogue clean-up.
  2. Check your PC against the requirements. The system requirements list Microsoft Windows 11, at least an Intel Core i5 8th gen or AMD Ryzen 5 1000 series processor, 16 GB of RAM, a graphics card with 8 GB of VRAM and 1.5 GB of free disk space. Boris FX says Vegas products have no macOS version.
  3. Look up licenses you already own. Boris FX says a perpetual Vegas Pro license bought from MAGIX stays valid and that MAGIX keeps its activation servers running. If you sign in to a Boris FX account with the email you used at MAGIX, your earlier serial numbers appear in the account panel, so you can buy an upgrade there instead of a new license.
  4. Bought Vegas Pro 23 in early 2026? Claim the upgrade. Boris FX says customers who bought Vegas Pro 23 from MAGIX between 1 January and 1 April 2026 get a free upgrade to Vegas Pro 2026, and earlier buyers get 25% off the upgrade through Boris FX sales. It calls this a limited-time offer.

Buy Vegas Pro with crypto through Unboxkey

If the Boris FX store declines your card, or you would rather pay in crypto, we can buy the license for you. You pay us in crypto, and we buy a new, unused perpetual download license from an authorized dealer and email it to you. Vegas Pro runs with a free Boris FX account, and the perpetual license includes 1 year of upgrades and support. Boris FX's license terms say licenses are not assignable or transferable without its prior written consent, so we never pass on a used or already registered license. The steps are on our How it works page, and the coins and networks we accept are on How to pay.

We sell perpetual licenses of Vegas Pro and Vegas Pro Plus only. Ultimate and the subscriptions are not in our catalog.

FAQ

Is Vegas Pro Plus available as a perpetual license?

Yes. Boris FX says Vegas Pro and Vegas Pro Plus are available with subscription or perpetual licensing, while Vegas Pro Ultimate is available as a subscription plan.

What does a Vegas Pro perpetual license include?

Boris FX's license terms give a perpetual license one year of Upgrade and Support Services. Its License Options page says you get all minor and major updates free during the first year of ownership; after that, newer versions require buying an upgrade.

Does a perpetual license include Storyblocks?

No. The official plans page marks the Storyblocks media library as subscription only, and Boris FX's launch announcement lists Storyblocks, offline speech-to-text and offline text-to-speech as available exclusively with Vegas Pro subscriptions.

Does Vegas Pro run on a Mac?

No. Boris FX says Vegas products are Windows applications with no macOS version, and the system requirements list Microsoft Windows 11.

Will my old MAGIX Vegas Pro license keep working?

Yes. Boris FX says a perpetual Vegas Pro license bought from MAGIX is yours to keep using and that MAGIX keeps operating its activation servers. Vegas Pro 23 and earlier remain MAGIX products, so Boris FX does not update them.
